Maybe a little cruel ;) Looks like it's been cleaned up a bit now so those empty blogs aren't there anymore.

i was in the same boat like you years back.mine was worst because there wasn't any available materials for that specific English.i ended up designing/creating my own lessons.from pictures to magazines, games, activities, etc.it wasn't really that hard.with experience,on the spot lessons or activities will just pop up.how to teach with limited resources?you'll know it when you'll need it!

I’m so glad other people have said this. I have a degree in languages so have a better grasp of grammar than most but even I’m daunted at the thought of teaching English. I’ve opted for a 4 week CELTA course and looking around at various forums, I’m astonished at people who think they can do a weekend course and then go to teach.
I’ve seen questions like “I have no degree or teaching experience. Do I really need a TEFL qualification to teach?” Whaaaaattt? Words fail me.

Yes, there will be a few people who don’t have a degree and make excellent teachers but you need a certain standard of education or a great deal of experience.

Hello,
I work at a Swedish training company and we are looking for a native English speaker (or someone with very good English language skills) to teach some Business English language courses for us in Vilnius. I did a search on the internet and ended up in this conversation.

If you are interested, please send an email to java@mindset.se with your contact details and we can discuss the details further. You can go into our website (www.mindset.se) to see that we really are a company (most of it is in Swedish, but there is some information in English). I understand that this is perhaps a strange way to get information about a job, but that's really the nature of the internet I suppose.

In any case, sorry to disturb the rest of the conversation (although I am a language teacher myself and could easily 'belong' in another context!).
Hope to hear from you,
Janette

Alex,

you shouldn't offer discounts for paying. If one student cannot afford it, another will. Why should you bother? I think that my service is worth a certain sum and it does not matter if they pay well anyway. I take money a month in advance (I give a receipt).

Also, imagine, a student cancells the lesson he/she is supposed to come with the money for the next month. They can say 'I will not pay for that cancelled lesson" and that's it, agreed about it or not, unless you sign a contract, then they have no choice.

I might sound harsh but it's high time we stopped viewing teaching as charity. Supply and demand, supply and demand.
